Mulla Nasruddin’s Clever Response to an Unfair Judge
One day, in a small town, Mulla Nasruddin was walking through the busy marketplace when two men started arguing loudly. One of them grabbed Mulla’s arm and said, “Mulla! You are a wise man. Please come with us to the court. We need a witness.”
The two men had a dispute over a bag of gold coins. Both claimed that the bag belonged to them. So they went to the court of the town’s judge.
Unfortunately, the judge was known for being greedy and unfair. He usually made decisions in favor of the richer person.
The first man whispered something to the judge and secretly gave him some money. The judge smiled and nodded. Then the second man also tried to please the judge, but he was poor and had nothing to offer.
The judge quickly announced, “The bag of gold belongs to the first man!”
The poor man cried, “This is injustice! Mulla, please say something. You saw what happened!”
Mulla Nasruddin calmly stepped forward and said, “Your Honor, may I ask a small question?”
The judge replied proudly, “Yes, you may.”
Mulla said, “If two cats are fighting over a piece of cheese, and a monkey offers to divide it, but keeps eating from both sides to ‘balance’ it, who gets the most benefit?”
The judge looked confused and answered, “Of course, the monkey!”
Mulla smiled and said loudly, “Exactly! And today, Your Honor, everyone in this court can clearly see who the monkey is.”
The courtroom became silent. People started whispering. The judge felt ashamed because everyone understood the message. He realized that his corruption had been exposed.
Embarrassed and afraid of losing his reputation, the judge cleared his throat and said, “After reconsidering the case carefully, I declare that the gold belongs to the poor man.”
The people praised Mulla’s wisdom. The poor man thanked him with tears in his eyes.
As they left the court, someone asked Mulla, “Why didn’t you directly accuse the judge?”
Mulla replied with a smile, “Sometimes, wisdom speaks louder through a story than through anger.”
Moral of the Story:
Wisdom and intelligence can defeat injustice better than shouting or fighting.

ایک دن ایک چھوٹے سے شہر میں ملا نصرالدین بازار سے گزر رہے تھے۔ اچانک دو آدمی آپس میں زور زور سے جھگڑنے لگے۔ ان میں سے ایک نے ملا کا ہاتھ پکڑ کر کہا،
“ملا صاحب! آپ دانا انسان ہیں، ہمارے ساتھ عدالت چلیں، آپ گواہ بنیں۔”
دونوں کے درمیان سونے کے سکّوں کی ایک تھیلی کا جھگڑا تھا۔ ہر ایک دعویٰ کر رہا تھا کہ تھیلی اسی کی ہے۔ چنانچہ وہ قاضی کی عدالت میں پہنچ گئے۔
بدقسمتی سے شہر کا قاضی لالچی اور ناانصاف تھا۔ وہ اکثر فیصلے امیر آدمی کے حق میں کرتا تھا۔
پہلا آدمی چپکے سے قاضی کے قریب گیا اور کچھ سکے اس کی طرف سرکا دیے۔ قاضی مسکرایا اور سر ہلایا۔ دوسرا آدمی غریب تھا، اس کے پاس دینے کے لیے کچھ نہ تھا۔
قاضی نے جلدی سے اعلان کیا،
“سونے کی تھیلی پہلے آدمی کی ہے!”
غریب آدمی رونے لگا اور بولا،
“یہ ناانصافی ہے! ملا صاحب، آپ کچھ کہیے، آپ سب جانتے ہیں۔”
ملا نصرالدین آگے بڑھے اور بڑے سکون سے بولے،
“حضورِ والا! اگر اجازت ہو تو ایک سوال پوچھوں؟”
قاضی نے غرور سے کہا، “پوچھو!”
ملا نے کہا،
“اگر دو بلیاں پنیر کے ایک ٹکڑے پر لڑ رہی ہوں اور ایک بندر اسے برابر بانٹنے کے بہانے دونوں طرف سے تھوڑا تھوڑا کھاتا جائے، تو آخر میں سب سے زیادہ فائدہ کس کو ہوگا؟”
قاضی نے جواب دیا، “ظاہر ہے بندر کو!”
ملا مسکرائے اور بلند آواز میں بولے،
“بالکل درست فرمایا! اور آج اس عدالت میں سب دیکھ رہے ہیں کہ بندر کون ہے۔”
عدالت میں سناٹا چھا گیا۔ لوگ سرگوشیاں کرنے لگے۔ قاضی کو اپنی بدنامی کا خوف ہوا اور وہ شرمندہ ہو گیا۔
اس نے کھنکار کر کہا،
“میں نے دوبارہ غور کیا ہے۔ سونے کی تھیلی غریب آدمی کی ہے۔”
لوگوں نے ملا نصرالدین کی دانائی کی تعریف کی اور غریب آدمی نے آنکھوں میں آنسو لیے ان کا شکریہ ادا کیا۔
واپسی پر کسی نے ملا سے پوچھا،
“آپ نے قاضی کو سیدھا الزام کیوں نہیں دیا؟”
ملا نے مسکرا کر جواب دیا،
“کبھی کبھی دانائی غصے سے زیادہ طاقتور ہوتی ہے، اور کہانی سچ کو زیادہ خوبصورتی سے بیان کر دیتی ہے۔”
