Filipino Film Producer Earns Multiple Nominations at Canadian Screen Awards
The film Village Keeper, produced by Enrique Miguel Baniqued, has received seven nominations at the 13th Canadian Screen Awards in 2025, including a nod for Best Motion Picture.
Village Keeper tells the story of a grieving widow, paralyzed by anxiety, struggling to protect her children in a city plagued by violence. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and has since been screened at several other festivals.
Baniqued, 27, a former business graduate from Manila, transitioned into film production after moving to Canada in 2019. Drawing on his entrepreneurial skills, he volunteered on numerous short and feature films before connecting with Canadian film and television director Karen Chapman.
In 2024, Baniqued was nominated for the prestigious Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award by the Canadian Media Producers Association. He was also selected for TIFF’s inaugural Every Story Accelerator talent program, presented by the RBC Foundation, which supports diverse voices in film.
Based in Toronto, Baniqued has collaborated with major entertainment organizations including Destination Toronto, the NHL, WNBA, the JUNOS, UFC, and CBC’s Family Feud Canada.
