Anytime you were editing a video, I want you to constantly be asking yourself in the back of your mind, “Am I including this clip in this video because it enhances the story? Or am I including this clip because it makes me look cool as a filmmaker and editor.”
It is easy to get caught up in trends and styles that may be cool at the time that you were making a video, but if you want to create a video that withstands the test of time, and will be watchable in 10 years, you need to be brutally honest with yourself when it comes to answering those questions.
If you find yourself trying to shoehorn a cool-looking clip into your video that doesn’t enhance the story, then the entire edit is going to suffer because of that decision.
Instead, choose the clips that have the strongest impact on your story, and your video will be more cohesive and your audience will enjoy watching it more.
