A Filipino Immigrant Wins Largest Lottery in Canadian History
Justin Simporios, a 35-year-old from the Philippines, has won $80 million—the largest lottery jackpot ever won in British Columbia. It is also the largest jackpot ever won by a single person in Canada.
There have been previous $80 million jackpots, but they were divided among multiple winners.
Simporios purchased the $12 Lotto Max quick pick ticket on the day of the draw at a grocery store in Surrey, British Columbia.
He has lived in Surrey for four years, after moving from Montreal.
The odds of winning a Lotto Max jackpot are one in 33,294,800.
