Such an important masterpiece in the history of flute! Never in my life did I imagine I’d get to touch (let alone play) an original flute made by Böhm himself. I honestly had to take a moment to breathe before laying a hand on it. I strongly recommend you guys to visit the @mimphx the largest musical instrument museum in the world, for their upcoming flute exhibition from Nov.2025 till Sep.2026! More info on this historical flute: Flute, 1847 system Silver, steel, felt, cork Munich, Germany, 1849 Theobald Boehm, maker MIM Collection Theobald Boehm (1794-1881; also spelled Böhm) was one of the most influential instrument makers of all time. In 1832, he invented a system of keys with rings and placed it on a traditional wooden flute with enlarged tone holes. Fifteen years later, Boehm radically redesigned the flute using the principles of mathematics and acoustics. Boehm abandoned the traditional wooden body and conical bore in favor a metal body with a cylindrical bore and parabolic head. He made the tone holes as large as physically possible and placed them in mathematically ideal locations. Boehm also designed a system of padded keys interlinked with axles and clutches to let the player cover and uncover tone holes that were out of reach. The key systems he designed became the foundation of modern keyed woodwinds.
