After the battle of Kolhapur 1659 Adishahi forces under general Siddi Jauhar a large army ( approx 10000men) besieged the fort of Panhala. Mughals were also near Pune threatening the northern borders of Swarajya. Hence at one rainy night Shivaji with his trusted soldiers came out stealthily, but Siddi pursued them. Then Baji Prabhu Deshpande a brave Maratha took a last stand with only 300 men against all odds and successfully covered Shivaji Raje's retreat till he reached Vishalgad.
