Rail Travel to Become Costlier Starting Tomorrow, Along with Other Changes
Starting Tuesday, July 1, several important rules affecting everyday activities and essential tasks of the general public will change. Indian Railways is set to implement new fare rates from July 1. For HDFC Bank users, rules related to credit card payments, online wallet transactions, and PAN card issuance are being revised. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued new guidelines regarding credit cards.
1. Aadhaar Now Mandatory for PAN Card
You will no longer be able to apply for a new PAN card without an Aadhaar card. Submitting an Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for obtaining a PAN. If you already have both PAN and Aadhaar, it is also compulsory to link them. The deadline for linking has been set as December 31, 2025.
2. Railway Fare Hike for AC and Non-AC Travel
Indian Railways has increased fares:
Non-AC coaches: ₹0.01 increase per km.
AC classes: ₹0.02 increase per km.
No fare change for local and general second class travel up to 500 km.
For journeys over 500 km in second class, the fare will increase by just ₹0.005 per km.
3. OTP Mandatory for Tatkal Ticket Booking
From July 1, the process for booking Tatkal train tickets will change:
When booking tickets via the IRCTC website or app, an OTP will be sent to your mobile number.
The ticket will not be confirmed until this OTP is verified.
4. New Rule for Credit Card Bill Payment
RBI has changed the rules for paying credit card bills:
From now on, all credit card bills must be paid via the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).
This impacts platforms like PhonePe and CRED, as BBPS-based bill payment is currently supported by only 8 banks.
5. New Charges on Credit Cards and Wallets
HDFC Bank has introduced new charges:
Spending over ₹10,000/month on gaming apps using credit cards will attract a 1% fee.
A similar 1% fee will apply to wallet top-ups exceeding ₹10,000.
If a bill payment exceeds ₹50,000, additional charges will be applied.
6. ICICI Bank ATM Withdrawals to Get Costlier
ICICI Bank has changed its ATM withdrawal rules:
If ICICI Bank customers withdraw cash more than three times a month from other bank ATMs, a fee will apply:
₹23 per extra financial transaction
₹8.50 per non-financial transaction
