HE HATED MALINIAK AND SUFFERED A LOT. 🕯️ Roman Kłosowski's Bitter Secret. "MR. ENGINEER!" – WHO OF US DOESN'T HEAR THAT VOICE WHEN THINKING ABOUT MALINIAK? I stand at Warsaw's Powązki Military Cemetery, a place where the substantive history of Polish entertainment meets nostalgia. It is here, in the columbarium (Q-8-2-9), that lies the resting place of a man who proved that 156 cm tall is enough to become a giant of Polish cinema. ROMAN KŁOSOWSKI. An actor who made us laugh until we cried, even though his own life was far from a comedy. Today on the Moc Przetrwania channel, Sławek Sikora invites you to a substantive encounter with a legend who has stood the test of time, despite being told, "You don't have the qualifications" at the start. "I'LL EVEN PLAY HAMLET ON SHOES" – THE BEGINNINGS OF A GIANT Roman Kłosowski, a boy from Biała Podlaska, had to struggle from the start. When he was told during his entrance exams to the State Drama School (PWST) that he was too short, he replied to Professor Wyrzykowski with a sharp retort: "If you're playing Hamlet on high heels, then I'll play Grabiec in the same way." The jury burst out laughing, and he was given a chance, which he took 100%. He made his debut in 1953, and just three years later, he starred in Jerzy Kawalerowicz's "Cień" (Shadow) – a film that took the Cannes Film Festival by storm. Kłosowski wasn't just a "comedy actor." He was a versatile artist: a graduate in directing, a teacher, and from 1976 to 1981, the general and artistic director of the Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. His portrayal of Švejk is still remembered as an unparalleled example of the character's substantive interpretation. MALINIAK – CURSE OR BLESSING? In 1974, Jerzy Gruza entrusted him with a role that would forever define him: Roman Maliniak in "The Forty-Year-Old Man." The meddlesome, ambitious, and sycophantic construction technician became a portrait of the communist generation. Kłosowski played him so brilliantly that people shouted his name on the streets. But Kłosowski also displayed substantive depth in films like "The Depot of the Dead," "Hydrozagadka," and the brilliant "Big Bang." He played for the greatest: Ford, Has, and Kondratiuk. Every role, even the smallest cameo in "Świat według Kiepskich," had that special something – the substantive stamp of a master. THE TRAGEDY THAT TURNED OUT THE LIGHT Roman's greatest strength was his wife, Krystyna. For 58 years, they were inseparable. They affectionately called each other "Gabcio" and "Gabcia." When Roman began to lose his sight, she was his eyes – she read scripts to him so he could continue working. Her death in 2013 was the end of the world for him. "My profession is the only thing keeping me alive," he said. However, without Krystyna, the substantive joy of creating faded. He said goodbye to audiences with a role in "Krapp's Last Tape." He spent his final years in a nursing home near Łódź. He fought the disease until the very end, demonstrating the true power of survival. A NEIGHBORHOOD OF LEGENDS AND ETERNAL MEMORY He passed away on June 11, 2018. He was laid to rest in the Alley of the Meritorious, where the greatest gather. Visiting his resting place, we feel the same substantive weight of history as at the graves of Jędryka or Karewicz. This is a caste of people who didn't need marketing to survive in the hearts of Poles. On the Moc Przetrwania channel, we remind you that Roman Kłosowski is not just Maliniak. He's a symbol of determination. A man who, with a smile on his face, overcame his own limitations and tragic twists of fate. 💬 I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU: Which role do you love most about Roman Kłosowski? Was it the meddlesome Maliniak or the moving Edward Chruścik from "Kramarz"?
