This is the story of a saint of God from the Tabi'in, Safwan bin Salim — a servant whom God protected not with a sword, not with power, but with the purity of his heart and tongue.
Narrated in Hilyatul Awliyā' by Abu Nu'aim al-Ashbahani, Safwan bin Salim was known as a worshiper who guarded his tongue very carefully. He never criticized, did not hurt people's hearts, and did not taint his deeds with hidden evil.
One night, when he returned from the Prophet's Mosque, four robbers followed him with malicious intent. But as they were about to approach, an inexplicable fear gripped their hearts. Their steps stopped, their bodies trembled, as if there was an invisible wall separating them from Safwan.
Unaware of the danger behind him, Safwan bin Salim continued walking calmly — and Allah sent His angels to guard a servant who guarded people from his tongue.
This story teaches us that: – Allah's protection often comes in invisible forms.
– A clean heart and a guarded tongue can be the strongest fortress.
Sincerity is an invisible garment, but feared by evil.
There are servants whom God takes care of because they do not hurt His creatures.
May this story be a reminder for all of us — that true salvation does not come from self-strength, but from closeness to God and straight morals towards others.
