Earmite infection
Ear mites are the most common cause of ear infections in cats.
Etiology: Otodectes cynotis,Cheyletiella blakei, Notoedres cati
*They live in wax of ear canal and is highly contagious to the animals which are in close contact
Clinical Signs
Scratching of ears, Shaking of head, hematoma, crusty black substance in ear, painful to touch, foul odour
Complications
Inflammation of ear, Wounds, prone to secondary bacterial /yeast infection, loss of the sense of hearing/deafness
Diagnosis
Physical examination of ear, microscopic examination of ear and using otoscope
Treatment
Selamectin at 6mg/kg as a spot on
Ivermectin at 200microgram/kg SC at weekly intervals
Otic parasiticides like permethrin-neomycin-nystatin-triamcinolone for few days
