Russia has launched a new state app called The Max, a government-backed messaging app and it really wants people to treat it as a WhatsApp replacement and Telegram alternative. The platform is being pushed aggressively through schools, workplaces, and even pre-installed on phones.
But critics warn it’s less about convenience and more about censorship and control. The Kremlin wants messaging on this censored app to become the norm, giving authorities access to conversations and limiting free speech. Good luck talking about the war there.
