From the windswept landscapes of the Outer Hebrides, flakebelly creates music that moves between psychedelic indie rock, folk-jazz, and imagined soundworlds. Each project explores new approaches, allowing sound, tone, and method to develop freely.
Releases include The Orkney Tapes (2022), The Christmas Morning Outcome (2023), EPs: Behaviours (2022) and Lo Fidelity (2024), the kaleidoscopic album Apprentice Green (2024), and the 17-track psych alt-folk record The Boy In The Diving Bell. His track In Parks Of Tall Trees featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music Introducing Mixtape.
Working alone, flakebelly records with analogue gear that is often broken, dusty, and unstable, using glitches, wear, and imperfection as deliberate musical material. A new project, due mid 2026, pushes further into abstraction, building tracks from rhythm outward using tape machines and degraded sound.
All music is written, recorded, and produced at Flaming Jangle Studios.
