Pardons can be simple, pardons can be complex. A person can be pardoned by a Governor for state actions (convicted crimes, charged crimes, even state crimes which a person might be arrested for some time in the future) or by the President of the United States for federal actions (convicted federal crimes, charged federal crimes, even federal crimes which a person might be arrested for some time in the future).
I’m Attorney John A. Coggeshall, everybody calls me “Cog”, and I have been fortunate enough, in one single day, to obtain three pardons for three different clients, plus one client who was pardoned twice, four years apart, by two different Governors. With these brief episodes—we call them “Cogcasts”—I attempt to bring to life the backstory and current circumstances of various pardon petition candidates.
It is my hope that these Cogcast presentations are enlightening, relevant and sometimes even a bit entertaining.
