I hit 20k words in my first novel.

Several years ago, I tried to write my first novel but it fell apart around 20k words.

I was scared to write a novel ever since, fearing that the story would be trash and fall apart again.

But then I read Storyville, Save the Cat, and Slight Edge.

My mindset was changed.

I was equipped with more writing / outlining knowledge, but it finally hit my thick skull that writing a first draft wasn’t meant to be easy or perfect.

Writing a novel is messy and failure is the path to success.

You can’t learn if you don’t try. I will never hold my own book in my hands if I never write a novel. Writing a first draft is telling yourself the story.

My first 20k words is not pretty, but I can see the skeleton of the story and that’s what matters.

Best writing advice I ever received: Just write.
